The Sanitation Project
The project of interest is on sanitation and biogas production for small scale homes in rural areas.
Dealing with wastes has become a nightmare for various people all over and no doubt has brought about sanitation problems and environmental mismanagement.
As a result of poor waste disposal, pollution has resulted which has led to the vulnerability to and the consequent spread of various diseases arising out of this improper waste handling.
Power has also become a major concern especially in the less previllaged rural areas. The livelihood for this set-up of the society has been hampered due to inadequate or lack of power thus many projects that can be ventured into for development cannot be carried out simply because obtaining the needed power is either expensive or unavailable.
Integration of these two problems would be a plus for these communities. This would entail simultaneously dealing with these two problems by using the animal, plant and other wasted to produce power from biogas. From the biogas, various components can be powered by properly making use of the gas obtained. Furthermore, less pollutant manure can be obtained ultimately.
A sample simple design
Complolex Design
The various benefits of the project would include;
- Available power at affordable rates
- Reduced pollution
- Reduced time wastage while collecting firewood
- Reduced relieance on fossil fuels
- Saving on the environment (Reduced defforestation)
- Improved living standards in the rural areas
- Proper waste management
- Reduced global warming
Several rural areas especially my area have a problem of obtaining power for cooking, lighting and powering various gadgets.
Idea is to model a simple biogas production set up and an affordable digester that will utilize the human and other wastes to produce useful energy for the villages.
A simplified idea of the system would be as follows;

The Design Procedure
The focus is to design a simple affordable biogas digester for use in the urban areas
